LASSE CENTIO
Lasse Centio's artistic expression manifests as a fusion of inspiration from popular culture, his spontaneous stream of consciousness, and a relational aspect. He creates works that capture and freeze a cross-section of the moment.
In earlier works, Centio explored motifs such as the cowboy figure and its cultural symbolism, using it as a way to freeze characters in moments of pause and reflection. Painting forms the foundation of Centio’s practice. From here he explores the use of color and motifs before translating them into other materials and formats. Working across painting, ceramics, works on paper, and bronze casting, he continuously experiments with how the same visual language can unfold across different media.
Over the past year, however, his practice has increasingly been shaped by his time living and working in Skagen. Here, the surrounding maritime environment has become a central source of inspiration. This shift manifests particularly in his ceramic sculptures, which often take on vessel-like forms resembling ships, containers, or maritime structures. The works are characterized by a raw aesthetic and surfaces with a metallic quality reminiscent of materials and textures found in the shipbuilding industry.
Lasse Centio (b. 1996) holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts - Department of Contemporary Art from the University of Bergen, Norway (2018-2021).
